How does that compare with the cost of owning a car?
|
|
Most people make driving decisions based on how much gas it will take to get somewhere. You actually spend about 10 times more than the cost of gas when you include all costs: insurance, maintenance, car payments, etc. Many of these are fixed costs that need to be paid no matter how few miles you drive.
- FACT: Every year, the average American household spends $$7,455 on vehicles
- FACT: Everyday, in Boulder alone, more than 2.5 million miles are driven more than 10 times the distance to the moon
- FACT: Every day, the average American male dedicates more than four hours to his car (including driving, repairing, and work time to pay bills)
This table compares your actual costs per mile for car ownership, versus using CarShare, based on how much you drive per year.
If you drive less than 2500 miles a year, Boulder CarShare is cheaper.
